Living out our mission through clothing donations

Back in 1969, a group of women at our church started Family Assistance to distribute clothing, shoes, outerwear, and more to local families in need. For over 55 years, Family Assistance has partnered with organizations like Head Start, Bethany Christian Services, Women’s Resource Center, and Kent County Health Department, to show God’s love.

This clothing assistance program happens in a specially designed building in our parking lot, with volunteers working 4 days a week. Requests come through school social workers and local social agencies and organizations. The items we distribute come from clothing donations (which are laundered in our space), purchased goods through offerings by our church members, and even include some sewn and knit items by volunteers.

Family Assistance has been, and continues to be, a clothing assistance program near and dear to our hearts and is a foundational part of our local church missions. Every year we continue to break record numbers of orders fulfilled and families served, which points to how critical this need is in our communities.
